Five Geographies.
Legally Protected.

Each of these origins carries a Geographical Indication — a legal seal that ties the product to the place that made it possible. Nothing else can claim the name.

A Geographical Indication is the closest thing Indian food has to a legal birth certificate. Granted by the Government of India under the GI Act 1999, it ties a specific produce to a specific gazetted region — and forbids anyone outside that region from selling under the same name. There are roughly 605 GI-tagged products in India today; the five we carry are among the most distinctive of the Northeast.

Kopahi buys these GIs from registered authorised users inside the gazetted area. We publish the GI registration number on every product page, alongside the farmer's name, the village, the year of partnership, and — where applicable — independent lab assays. The aim is simple: when you buy a Lakadong from Kopahi, you should be able to trace it back to the slope it grew on.
